The article examines the phenomenon of right-wing populism in modern Hungary. The object of the study iз the scientific discourse that concerns the analysis of the populism manifestation as a trend of current politics in democratic countries. The purpose of he study analysis of the political and social factors of the formation of right-wing populism in Hungary as the ideology and practice of the ruling political elite. The dialectical principle of scientific knowledge made iз possible to reveal the contradictory nature of political and cultural development in the conditions of democratic modernization of post-communist society in Hungary, to investigate the phenomenon of Hungarian populism in its social and political interdependencies. In particular, iз was established that: the ineffective policy of the left post-communist forces created the conditions for the actualization of right-wing populism, and their retreat to the political margins expanded the spectrum of populist politics to the center; aggressive, including anti-Semitic, rhetoric of the radical right allowed V. Orban' s party widely use nationalist, anti-globalist, Eurosceptic, and anti-immigration slogans. With the help of the comparative and analytical method, iз was possible to find out the peculiarities of the formation of political rhetoric and political practice of the Hungarian right-wing populist party Fidesz and its leader V. Orban. As in all post-communist countries, in Hungary, the process of transition to a market economy caused the population to be disappointed in their expectations of democracy due to increasing material problems. But, unlike neighboring countries, Hungarian society showed and shows a greater tendency towards autocracy. The article examines the question of whether iз iз possible to consider the regime of deliberative democracy, which was the result of the implementation of right-wing populist policy, as one of the options for the transition of post-communist society to liberal democracy. It was concluded hat as long as the level of freedom in Hungary iз much higher than under the classical dictatorship, there iз no open violence and repression, and there are elections, there still be chances for the victory of the opposition and the prospect of a change of power and the building of a real democracy
